From Christchurch to Sydney in Style
Our adventure begins in Christchurch, New Zealand, where the weather was absolutely beautiful. However, for a first-class flight, I decided to ditch the shorts and opt for a more sophisticated look. Emirates, in my experience, always provides a seamless and efficient check-in process. Within minutes, I had my boarding pass and was eager to begin the highlight of my trip – the flight itself!
While I had flown Emirates First Class before, this was my first time on their legendary A380. I was excited to experience this new level of luxury firsthand and share it with all of you.
Christchurch International Airport, a major hub for international travel, is well-equipped to handle large aircraft like the A380. After a quick and easy passage through security and immigration, it was time to head to the gate. And there she was, our ride for today: the Emirates A380! This plane is a legend, and I’ve always dreamed of flying on it.
The Manaia Lounge: A Tranquil Oasis Before Takeoff
Before boarding, I relaxed in the Manaia Lounge. This spacious lounge, possibly accessible through Priority Pass, offers a wide variety of snacks, light meals, and an excellent selection of New Zealand wines. It’s the perfect place to unwind and recharge before a long flight.
Boarding the Emirates A380: A First Class Welcome
Boarding was a breeze, with a separate line for First and Business Class passengers that leads directly to the A380’s upper deck. I was pleasantly surprised when a flight attendant greeted me in Spanish—it’s those little personalized touches that truly elevate the Emirates experience.
My suite was conveniently located near the boarding door, and a flight attendant promptly offered me a drink. And yes, you read that right—Emirates offers Dom Pérignon champagne the moment you step onboard! Talk about a first-class welcome!
A380 First Class Suite: Luxury in the Sky
The First Class suite on the Emirates A380 is incredibly spacious and well-appointed. Some of the standout features include:

- Mini-Bar: Stocked with water and snacks for convenient refreshment throughout the flight.

Emirates goes above and beyond to ensure passenger comfort. In addition to the suite’s features, they provide:
- Super Soft Pajamas and Slippers: For maximum comfort during your flight.
- Signature Amenity Bag: Containing additional toiletries and essentials.
- Delicious Arabic Coffee: A perfect pick-me-up after takeoff.
A Shower at 30,000 Feet: The Ultimate Luxury
One of the most unique features of the Emirates A380 First Class experience is the onboard shower spa. The bathroom itself is huge! Furthermore, the shower is incredibly spacious with great water pressure and instant heating. You’re given five minutes of water, which can be reset if needed. It’s an amazing and refreshing experience that truly sets Emirates apart.
The full amenity kit includes everything you could possibly need: a razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, Bulgari perfume, lotions, and more. The Bulgari fragrance alone is valued at over $100!
Dining in the Sky: A Gastronomic Delight
After my shower, I enjoyed a delicious dinner. I opted for the beef steak and soup, paired with an excellent French wine. To top it off, I indulged in a glass of Dalmore King Alexander III whisky—a truly exceptional spirit.
The A380 Onboard Lounge: Where the Magic Happens
The Emirates A380 features an onboard lounge where First and Business Class passengers can mingle and enjoy drinks and conversation. The flight attendants are incredibly attentive and friendly, even bringing my whisky over to the lounge for me.
Booking this Experience with Points: An Incredible Value
The best part? This entire experience cost me only about $70 and 64,000 Qantas points! You can transfer points to Qantas from credit cards like American Express, Chase, and Capital One.
This double-decker A380 has 14 First Class suites, 76 Business Class seats, 56 Premium Economy seats, and 338 Economy seats. And of course, let’s not forget the onboard lounge!
Final Thoughts: An Unforgettable Journey
Landing in Sydney, I was thoroughly impressed with my Emirates A380 First Class experience. It was an unforgettable journey filled with luxury, comfort, and exceptional service.
